چکیده

Water scarcity is a pressing global issue driving the need for efficient and sustainable water reuse desalination technologies. In last two decades, humidification–dehumidification (HDH) has emerged as promising method small-scale decentralized systems. This paper presents comprehensive review of recent scientific literature highlighting key advancements, challenges, potential future directions HDH research. Because process suffers from low heat mass transfer, well thermodynamic limitations due to mild operating conditions, this work indicates three main strategies enhancement: (1) Advanced Heat Mass Transfer Techniques, (2) Integration with Other Technologies, (3) Optimization System Operative Conditions. Particularly advanced systems, reference GOR values exceed 3, certain studies have demonstrated achieve even higher values, approaching 10. terms recovery ratio, there appear be no significant constraints, recycling brine prepared in innovative schemes can surpass 50%. Considering electricity costs, range falls between 1 3 kWh m–3. Notably, multi-stage processes system couplings lead increased pressure drops and, consequently, costs. Although consistent data are lacking, baseline SEC value approximately 360 kJ kg–1, corresponding 100 For comparable data, it advisable incorporate both thermal electric inputs, using power plant efficiency 0.4 converting duty electrical power. When considering utilization low-temperature solar waste heat, proposed exergy-based comparison vital; perspective reveals that low-carbon domain, II-law efficiencies surpassing 0.10, achieved.

Electrochemical Desalination for a Sustainable Water Future

Fresh water is required to sustain life. However, the world is facing a global challenge to reliably supply its population with safe water due to shortages stemming from population growth, climate change, contamination of available fresh water supplies, and public policy. Presently, the United Nations estimates that one third of the world’s population ( 2.4 billion people) is living in water-st...

Experimental Validation for Two Stages Humidification- Dehumidification (hdh) Water Desalination Unit

This paper demonstrates the preliminary experiments for two stage water desalination by humidification-dehumidification HDH process. An experimental set-up consists of two stages of closed air humidification dehumidification units. In this design, the saline water was heated by evacuated tube solar water heater integrated with electrically heated tank. A series of tests were performed in outdoo...

Sustainable Desalination : Environmental Approaches

The environmental issues of possible concern during construction and operation of desalination plants (mainly large-scale facilities) include impacts that are common to many coastal development projects (e.g. land use and aesthetic impacts), as well as specific impacts associated with the elements of the desalination system and auxiliary infrastructure. In the latter category these relate to th...

A new method for water desalination using microbial desalination cells.

Current water desalination techniques are energy intensive and some use membranes operated at high pressures. It is shown here that water desalination can be accomplished without electrical energy input or high water pressure by using a source of organic matter as the fuel to desalinate water. A microbial fuel cell was modified by placing two membranes between the anode and cathode, creating a ...
